of PPQ&S)had implemented a pilot project for the establishment of parasites and predators for biocontrol of insect pests and weeds during fourth five year plan which lateron converted as a scheme entitled as "Control of crop pests and weeds by biological means"which continued up to 7th five year plan.Initially only five Central Biological Control Stations(CBCS) were set up at Bangalore(Karnataka state,Faridabad,(Haryana),Gorakh pur (UP ),Hyderabad (A P )and Srinagar of J& k state up to end of 5th five year plan.The project was further continued during 6th plan.During 6th five year plan CBCS Solan (HP),Sriganganagar,(Raj)Burdwan(WB) and Surat(Guj),Raipur(MP now in Chhattishgarh),were also set up.

In January 1972 ICAR has also launched an All India Coordinated Resarch project on Biological Control
of crop pests though 12 Co operative centresof National Centre for biocontrol at Indian Institure of Horticultural research Bangalore in Jan.1977.
State govt of kerala,TN,Karnataka,Orissa and AP have also implemented biocontrol programme of Coconut blackhead Catterpillar,Sugarcane borers, Scale insect of Sugarcane ,Castor Semilooper,and Spodoptera litura.
Some firms have also started Commercial insectaries .
Commonwealth Institute of Biological control Bangalore was established in 1957.
