Crop Pest Surveillance

Crop Pest surveillance is a strict and continuous watch on the buildup of population of Pests and their natural enemies throughout the crop season or over a desired period of time in an Agro-Eco-System (ASEA) so that a prior care can be adopted to manage the pest problems timely.
Pest surveillance is like a:
·       Diagnostic wing in a Hospital.
·       Signal core in Army.
·       Intelligence wing in IB.
·       A central rod in Umbrella.
·       Eyes and Ears of crop protection system.
·       Vigilance in security system.
·       Water in food.

Ø To detect the occurrence of emerging Pest problems.
Ø To identify the areas of Pest prevalence or Pest Free Areas (PFA).
Ø To conduct Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) of particular indigenous or invasive pests.
Ø  To make suitable and advance planning, preparedness and strategy for the management of Pest problems.
Ø To make decision for adoption of different interventions in the crop field.
Ø To issue pest advisories about the Pest problems to the states and farmers.
