To make Agroecosystem better suited for the build up and survival of existing beneficial fauna through manipulation of biotic and abiotic factors of ecosystem is called as ecological engineering .
To make Agroecosystem suitable for better survival of biocontrol agents / beneficial fauna.
Growing of flowering plants or crops for providing nector from pollen grains as a food for adults of biocontrol agents or other beneficial organisms found in Agroecosystem ,growing of alternate crops for crop pests when the main crop is not available for providing shelters for overwintering population of pests and their biocontrol agents is done for the survival of beneficial fauna found in Agroecosystem.
Ecological engineering for pest management __
A.Above ground :-Intercropping,border cropping,mixed cropping of flowering plants is undertaken.Pests atrracting crops or trap crops are also grown to attract different pests .
B.Below ground :-Crop rotation,with leguminous crops,mulching with crop residue ,reducing tillage, application of biofertilizers,Mycorrhiza,andplant growth promoting Rhizobium,applyTrichoderma and Pseudomonas flurescence as seed or nursery treatment and soil application. Application different types of IPM and Natural farming inputs are used.
