History of Biological Control Scheme of the Dte. of plant protection ,quarantine and Storage Govt of India.

Directorate of plant protection ,Quarantine and storage has implemented  a pilot project for the establishment of parasite and predators for bio control of insect pests and weeds during fourth five 

year plan which continued to seventh
five year plan . Five Central biological control stations (CBCSs)set up at Bangalore, Faridabad, Gorakhpur ,Hyderabad and Srinagar up to the end of fifth five year plan .The project was further continued during sixth five year plan that is 1978 -83 with an outlay of rupees 75 lakh.
CBCS Hyderabad,Gorakhpurand Faridabad with some exemptin some posts shifted to non plan side during fifth five year plan.During sixth five year plan CBCS Solan,Sriganganagar,Burdwan ,Surat Raipur ,Bhuveneswar and a Parasite multiplication unit at Bagalore were also setup.CBCSBangalore and CBCS Srinagar were also transferd to nonplan side. The detail of the year of opening of different CBCSs is given below.

3.Gorakhpur    1974.
4.Bangalore    1976
5.Srinagar        1976
6.Solan             1980-81.
7 .Sriganganagar 1980-81.
8.Surat               1981
9 Burdwan         1980-81
10 .Raipur           1983.
11.Bhuveneshwar 1983.
12.PMU Bangalore 1982-83.
These stations were merged in to a Scheme Strenthening and Modernisation of pest management approach in India during 1991-92 and became Central Integrated Pest Management  Centres after restructuring of plant protection system in India.
