Concepts of different methods of plant protection and also different schemes of the Dte of plant protection ,Quarantine and storage.

I have worked in different schemes of Dte of plant protection, Quarantine and Storage like Biological control of crop pests and weeds,Pest Surveillance, Integrated pest Managent, locust control,plant Quarantine ,and also participated in different activities run by the Dte.like Rodent control,and Control of household pests.All these schemes are the methods of plant protection which are having different concepts for managing and controling the pests for different purposes.There is a clear cut difference among the concepts of above mentioned methods  of plant protection or schemes of  the Dte of PPQ& S.

       Locust is not managed but controlled .There is no ETL for locust control purpose.It is an emergency pest should be controlled not to be managed.But mean time we should not underestimate the importance and attack of locust in terms of loss to be caused by this pests.It can create famine like situation not controlled properly.

.Only the chemical control is the effective way of locust control though different biopesticides have also been identified but they are used only for experimental purposes not to combat  the locust emergency.

        There is no tolerance and ETL in case of locust control,plantQuarantine,The E TL concept is not working and applicable in all occassions and in all concept of plant protection.

   Incase of Rodent control ETL is also not properly working because in this case ETL is not calculated on population basis but on the basis of live burrow counts.

Integrated pest Managent is the suppression of pest populations  by any means to a level at which the harm is inflicted to insignificant or minor.This the concept of Pest management.

        To reduce the use of the chemical pesticides in Agriculture based on the pest monitoring and surveillance and also Agroec osystem Analysis is the concept of pest Surveillance.
